In Preparation For The 2022 World Cup, FIFA Released Four Blockchain Games

FIFA recently unveiled four iconic blockchain-based games to bring the Web3 experience to the global stage to excite and entertain football fans around the world ahead of the 2022 World Cup, which begins in just ten days.

In an official statement released Wednesday, FIFA called the four competitions “looking to the future” and stressed the growing importance of video games and esports. Video game developers Uplandme, Phygtl, Altered State Machine, and Matchday, will offer blockchain-based games.

The first game on the list is AI League: Qatar 2022 World Cup Edition, built by Altered State Machine. Users can take on the role of a coach on a soccer field full of AI-controlled players in this game that offers a 4v4 gaming experience.

As is typical of a traditional football experience, players can improve their characters in-game through power-ups, training sessions, and developing tactically sound strategies. In addition, the game’s courts feature stylized streetball venues worldwide, and players can be swapped within a player’s team.

Next on the list is the Uplandme: Qatar 2022 World Cup. Upland is an established Metaverse game that allows players to trade real estate and become real estate tycoons.

A feature enabling the purchase of digital artifacts related to the 2022 World Cup will be included in the FIFA World Cup edition. These artifacts also have digital copies of tournament highlights.

The Lusail Stadium for the World Cup campaign will also be made virtual in-game, and players can visit and shop there in the Metaverse. The third game, called Matchday Challenge: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition, allows users to use soccer cards to predict the outcome of matches between their friends.

The latest game is Phygtl – FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Phygtl mobile app users can create, update and own a small part of a “golden ball.”

FIFA’s Continued Interest In Web3 Development

FIFA started paying attention to the blockchain industry amid big companies’ global adoption boom. However, FIFA has picked a special interest in the Metaverse.

The FIFA World virtual environment will be available to Roblox users and football fans, thanks to a multi-year agreement that world football’s governing body struck with video game developer Roblox in October.

FIFA announced in March that Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com would be the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The move demonstrates the organization’s growing interest in blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

Rumors of FIFA’s relationship with PoS blockchain platform Algorand also surfaced in May. Through this relationship, Algorand becomes an official blockchain partner of FIFA, allowing the blockchain protocol to support all of FIFA’s blockchain-based interactions.

Algorand has positioned itself as the blockchain solution to support FIFA’s quest to build a post-deal digital asset strategy.
