Google Searches Spike After the WhatsApp Outage

Up to two billion consumers of WhatsApp went through an outage on 25th October 2022 as the largest messaging application across the globe went offline. No clarification has yet been made by Meta (the entity owning WhatsApp and Facebook) on the possible causes of the respective episode. The customers moved to social media venues such as Twitter and shared hilarious memes regarding the deficiency in the service.

WhatsApp Goes through an Outage Once again and Google Trends Heighten Worldwide

An analogous situation occurred in October of the previous year when WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp all went down consistently for over twenty-four hours because of a modification in the server configuration. Nonetheless, this time, the platform’s outage lasted shortly. The venue remained effective in restoring the services thereof within some hours of the earliest outage.

For another time, questions have been raised regarding substitutive applications for messaging. The data shown by Google Trends brings to the front that an upsurge was witnessed in the searches around WhatsApp throughout the world on 25th October as customers attempted to know about the reasons behind the most famous messaging application.

South Africa, Pakistan, Netherlands, Italy, United Arab Emirates, and Singapore were prominent among the countries where several queries related to WhatsApp were searched after the blackout. For a long time, the crypto community has been focusing on encryption and privacy. Thus, several competitors of WhatsApp have been gaining more and more endorsements to be utilized as alternatives.

With WhatsApp down, Other Messaging Apps Get Promoted

The user base of Telegram has steadily increased during some of the previous years. Pavel Durov, the CEO and founder of the venue, asserted in October that it facilitates nearly 700M consumers. The messaging application permits the clients to send messages, videos, and photos that are end-to-end encrypted along with sharing files as well as creating big groups.

In addition to this, the users can also make channels comprising almost 200,000 people to meet broadcasting purposes. Signal occupies 40M people as its user base worldwide and the privacy features of this application are promoted as frontrunning the industry. The end-to-end encryption and open-source means of the application indicate that the conversations as well as the messages of the consumers cannot be read by Signal or other third parties.
