Craig Wright Says He Will Quit Convincing the World That He Invented Bitcoin

For several years, an Australian computer scientist Craig Wright has claimed to be the Bitcoin founding father, Satoshi Nakamoto. However, this week he indicated that he would put to rest his campaign to convince the world that he invented the most famous crypto.

On Wednesday, Wright tweeted on his Twitter handle that he no longer cared about external validation. He added that he is now solely focused on seeing his ideas used by the world. Since 2015, Wright has claimed to be the Bitcoin founder despite failing to produce the private keys to Satoshi’s Bitcoin address, which is the only way to prove it.

At one point in 2020, the computer scientist’s attorneys claimed that the satoshi’s keys were not in Wright’s possession and would not reveal the person who had them. The attorneys maintained that Wright would receive the keys soon, but two years later, they have yet to emerge.

Court Accuses Craig Wright of Presenting False Evidence

In August this year, a British court determined that Wright had submitted false evidence in a defamation case he filed against podcaster Peter McCormack. The podcaster had earlier called Wright a fraud for claiming to be the Bitcoin founder.

The court noted that McCormack’s statements were harmful to Wright’s reputation. However, the computer scientist received only 1 Euro as damages. The judge argued that it was unreasonable for Wright to get anything more since he deliberately submitted false evidence.

Wright gained popularity following a wired article that claimed he invented Bitcoin by referencing his blog posts about the famous crypto weeks before its release in 2009. However, a Wayback Machine revealed that Wright’s blog posts could have been written in 2013 and then backdated.

Court Dismisses Wright’s Lawsuits Against His Critics

In 2014, Wired came out to say that it started to doubt the computer scientist’s story and could be a hoax. In the following years, Wright filed numerous lawsuits against crypto gurus who publicly disputed his story.

The court dismissed most of the suits. A notable case involved Hodlonaut, a crypto influencer who publicly claimed that Wright was mentally ill and a scammer. However, a Norwegian court found Hodlonaut not guilty of the defamation accusations against him.
